Unfiltered Wine Club, March 2026, vintage 2022

"Our next wine and first red of the March drop hails from the Castel del Monte DOC of Puglia, Italy. Vignuolo Nero di Troia is made from 90% of its namesake varietal with a touch of Aglianico that adds tannin and depth. The vineyards are farmed organically, biodynamically, and with regenerative practices, with a strong emphasis on soil health and long-term vineyard vitality. Medium to medium-plus in body and dry, this wine opens with notes of plum, blackberry, and black cherry before moving into ripe blueberry, currants, sweet tobacco, and worn leather. The earthy undertones, medium-plus acidity, and dry, chalky tannins complete the package of this perfect early-Spring red. This is the kind of wine that calls for something a little heartier, but still fresh enough for the season. Try it with grilled chicken or lamb kabobs, roasted eggplant with tomato and herbs, lentils with Italian sausage, or a seared steak with sautéed broccoli and cauliflower. It will also pair beautifully with aged cheeses or anything with a touch of smoke or char. Give it a few minutes of air before drinking to let the darker fruit and savory notes come into focus."
