Arneis from Roero DOCG, Piedmont, Italy; light plus bodied, mineral driven, and dry with notes of marzipan, fresh lime, green banana, brown pear, and yellow apple, layers of powdered/crystalized sugar (this is part textural/part aromatic), cream, dried herbs, and yellow flowers, with bright acidity (medium) and lingering wildflower honey on the finish. Delicate and lifted this vintage, superb! Organic and this wine love air - we're under strict instructions to shake it!
Unfiltered Wine Club May 2025:
"We're starting with a bang this month with my favorite wine of the entire lineup, an organic Arneis from Roero, inside the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. Some of you may be familiar with the producer; I carry Angelo Negro's Nebbiolo here at the shop and it's also by the glass at SILVIA in Woodstock. It's delicious! The Unfiltered Arneis is slightly cloudy in appearance, and I've been advised by the importer to shake it before you open it. Unconventional directions like that always make me happy; I love the challenge. During the aging process, the wine spends over 4 months on its lees, with regular stirring (bâtonnage), which lends complexity, a silky texture, and an added bonus of digestibility. This wine is basically lemonade for adults; it's light bodied, dry, and has thirst-quenching medium plus acidity. I got notes of tangerine, lime, wet stone, fresh herbs, and salt. This is the kind of wine I want to drink on a warm sunny afternoon with cheese and fruit, and I have designs on trying it out poolside this summer. Some other food pairing ideas: roasted chicken with herbs, baked white fish with a lemon caper sauce, creamy seafood risotto, brothy soups, and sautéed green veggies."
