Chenin Blanc from Anjou, Loire Valley, France; medium bodied and dry with notes of pear, candied green apple, almond cream, salt water taffy, and stony minerals, with medium plus acidity, a firm structure, and lingering honey on the finish. Practicing Organic
Unfiltered Wine Club, January 2025:
"On to my favorite wine in this month’s motley crew, a stunner of a Chenin Blanc from Anjou inside the Loire Valley, France. For those of you who don’t know, Chenin Blanc is my favorite white grape variety - it continues to evolve in the glass; the wine you begin with will not be the wine you end with. “Le Moulin de Châteaupanne” is full of notes of candied green apple, ripe Bartlett pear, almond cream, and stony minerals. It has a firm structure and a dry finish, with lingering notes of honey. Medium in body, this wine can stand up to some richer foods, spicy even, like Indian and Asian cuisine, but is also beautiful with green beans, spinach, salmon, pork chops, chicken, and fish stew. Gilles Musset and Serge Roullier have been best friends since childhood and were both born to winemaking families. After both of their families’ vineyards were decimated by hail in the early ‘90s, they decided to join forces and in 1994 founded Musset-Roullier. The two meticulously farm their combined 26 hectares of Chenin and Cabernet Franc in a biodiverse environment without the use of any kind of chemicals."
