Unfiltered Wine Club April 2025:

"Nothing says Spring like Verdicchio! This grape always reminds me of prancing through a field on a sunny afternoon. I'm not sure that I've ever actually done that, but it reminds me of the sentiment nonetheless. Most of Verdicchio is grown in Italy from the Marche along the Adriatic Sea coastline, where the maritime climate and clay soils are said to be the best showcasing of what the grape can do. The winemakers prefer to use only stainless steel when fermenting and aging their wines, which allows the terroir to be on full display without any influence of flavor or texture from more porous vessels like wood or concrete. Aside from all the floral and perfumy notes in the wine, I noticed hints of white peach, apple, citrus zest, and flinty minerals, which when combines with its juicy acidity and rounded texture make for a pretty enjoyable beverage this time of year. This type of floral wine always pairs well with smoked chicken and pork, but I especially love Verdicchio with charcuterie. Olives, meat, cheese, salted almonds...yes please! Montecappone Verdicchio is the perfect wine to drink while hanging out on a porch or patio in your backyard if you have one (with friends would be a bonus but not essential). Drink cold!"
