Unfiltered Wine Club, May 2026, 2025 vintage:

"Our first wine in May’s lineup is a thirst-quenching rosé made by Steve and Jill Matthiasson out of the Dunnigan Hills AVA in Yolo County, California, just over the Vaca Mountains west of Napa County. I may very well be the Matthiassons' biggest fan on earth. They were among the early pioneers of regenerative farming in California, and after years of hearing fellow winemakers discuss the warming climate and the damage it was causing to their vineyards, many began debating abandoning the area altogether in favor of cooler regions farther north, even into Canada. The Matthiassons, on the other hand, had already spent decades practicing regenerative organic farming, a philosophy centered around reducing carbon in the vineyards and leaving the land healthier than they found it. They traveled throughout California teaching other growers these methods, proving that thoughtful farming could be part of the solution rather than retreating from the problem. Their wines usually lean a little more higher-end, and the rosé is always a showstopper. It’s light in body with notes of fresh peaches, raspberry Greek yogurt, and lemon pith, with prominent minerality and juicy acidity. This wine doesn’t need food, but would be excellent with seared salmon with lentils, pasta with Spring peas, and fresh cheeses. There’s some great info on regenerative farming on the Matthiasson website if you’re interested:                  https://www.matthiasson.com/why-regenerative-organic-farming."
