Made from a wine base of Trebbiano di Lugano and Garganega from the Veneto, Italy, the botanicals are infused individually in a neutral grain spirit. The botanicals include olive tree leaves, lemon verbena, iris, pine, absinthe, yarrow, oregano, laurel, rosemary, chiretta flower, and mugwort - all which are grown at the farm at the Sirene house (except for the chiretta and the mugwort). The flavor profile has a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness with notes of lemon rind, floral tinctures, gentian, and brine, with a light-medium weight and medium acidity. This has "spritz" written all over it.
The Sirene products are a group of naturally made, traditional, Italian spirits. Elisa Carta is the force behind the brand, and her delicate yet precise liqueurs, bitters and aperitif wines reflect her as much as they do any prevailing category definitions. She named her products ‘Sirene' after the Baia delle Sirene (Bay of the Sirens) on Lake Garda which is also one of her chief botanical sources. No chemicals or artificial coloring are ever used in Elisa’s products and most are vegan. Her Amarulivo (a combination of the words ‘amaro’ and ‘ulivo’ or olive), was inspired by the olive trees that grow prolifically around Lake Garda and the leaves serve as the primary bittering agent. The base wine is the local Trebbiano di Lugano (genetically identical to Verdicchio) and Garganega grown in the Veneto.
