Unfiltered Wine Club, April 2026, vintage 2023:
"Our final red for the month of April is a Pineau d’Aunis made by Le Briseau, a winery located in the northern Touraine region of the Loire Valley, France, known for producing natural-leaning and expressive wines with a rustic, energetic edge. Pineau d’Aunis, also known as Chenin Noir, is often compared to Pinot Noir but it has a more floral, peppery, and earthy nature. Le Briseau’s Patapon is medium in body and assertively peppery and spicy (you’ll see!) with notes of red flowers, cranberry, and red plum, with barnyard undertones, medium plus acidity, and dry structured tannins. I would drink this one with a slight chill on it; perhaps 30 or so minutes in the fridge will do it. Pineau d’Aunis is generally paired with fatty meats, burgers, Thai cuisine, and aged salamis. This certainly applies to the Patapon, but this one in particular would be amazing with grilled white fish with lentils, seafood paella, sausage pizza, grilled mushrooms and zucchini, and any kind of burrito (I’m looking at you, Faedra!). Imported by Louis/Dressner Selections, this wine is made in very small quantities and therefore goes in and out of stock frequently. Enjoy it while it lasts!"
