Founded in Brooklyn by brewer Alice Jun, Hana Makgeolli is dedicated to traditionally brewed Korean rice wines made without the commercial additives and processing common in mass-produced makgeolli. Kingkangju is an unfiltered rice wine made from organic rice, nuruk, and water, co-fermented with fresh kumquats over a five-month process from harvest to bottle. Medium-plus in body and dry, it offers orange creamsicle and fresh lemon juice with medium acidity and a light spritz, finishing tart and refreshing with lingering orange rind. Bright and citrusy but grounded by the richness of the rice, this is a fun match for Korean fried chicken, spicy noodles, grilled pork, or salty, crispy snacks.
