Wine Club February 2023:

A Pelo is an organic skin contact wine that hails from Valle del Itata, Chile and macerates for 2 months on its skins in amphora. The amphora lends a unique earthiness to the wine that tastes a little like clay. Made from 100% Moscatel, otherwise known as Muscat, the wine is inherently floral and has an oily texture. I found it to be layered with beautiful honey and citrus notes, with hints of orange blossoms and tangerine, and subtle pops of citrus pith. The tannin structure is pretty and soft making this Orange Wine extremely clean and approachable. Muscat is fun to pair with smokey foods, like chicken, pork, smoked beets, and of course CHEESE! This is wine that should be enjoyed cool, not too cold, and it will have an extended shelf life once opened. As usual with Orange Wines, decanting them can be fun.
