Unfiltered Wine Club, January 2025:
"Earlier, we explored my favorite white grape variety, and now it's time to delve into my favorite red - Nebbiolo! This grape never fails to impress, and I proudly stock a diverse selection in my shop, catering to various price points. Made in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy, this Nebbiolo is spot-on stylistically with notes of leather, rose petals, black cherry, and sweet tobacco. The consistent flavors and aromas of prune and raisin lend depth and richness and balance out the dry, angular tannin structure. This boutique winery is passionately managed by the Alessandria family, with Gianfranco, his wife Bruna, and his daughters Marta and Vittoria handling everything from vinification to bottling (this particular cuvée is made by Vittoria). The family is committed to sustainable practices, farming as organically as possible and using minimal sulfur and copper to honor the environment. Nebbiolo is extremely food-friendly, and in my opinion, its best culinary partner by far is grilled steak with roasted mushrooms. It doesn’t need meat to shine, however; it is incredible with sautéed greens, broccoli, and grilled white fish. If you have the opportunity, enjoying a glass alongside a rich mushroom pâté could quite possibly change your life."
