Vermentino from Lazio, Italy; medium bodied and dry with notes of lemon custard, walnut skin, stony minerals, and savory green vegetables, with medium plus acidity and a long, clean finish. Organic and Biodynamic
Unfiltered Wine Club, March 2026, vintage 2023
"Spring is in the air! Or at least, it will be any day now, right? Our first white for the March lineup is a beautiful transition wine for the season, bridging the gap between winter’s call for richer wines and the lighter vibes of spring. Ciucci Donna Walda Vermentino comes to us from Lazio, Italy, where Vermentino takes on a slightly more savory personality than its coastal counterparts. This organically and biodynamically farmed wine is tended to with great care following regenerative farming practices, which allows the terroir to be the primary focus of the final product -aligning perfectly with my favorite saying, “great wine is made in the vineyard.” Medium-bodied and dry, it opens with lemon custard and a subtle bitterness of walnut skin before moving into stony minerals and a distinctly green note of steamed vegetables. The medium-plus acidity keeps everything bright and focused, carrying the wine into a long, clean finish that feels both refreshing and composed. This wine will pair with both your cold-weather dishes and the more Spring-inspired fare. Try it with grilled artichokes, lemony chicken, or simple seafood preparations like linguini and clams or white fish with olive oil and herbs. It also pairs effortlessly with vegetable-driven dishes, especially anything with a touch of bitterness or citrus (think radicchio salad with shaved fennel and citrus). Serve it chilled, but give it a moment in the glass to let those savory notes come into focus."
