Unfiltered Wine Club, March 2026, vintage 2023
"We can’t have the first Spring Wine Club without tossing in a lighter-style rosé. Brugnano Coraline Rosato is made from 100% Frappato grown near Partinico in Sicily by the Brugnano brothers, Francesco and Giuseppe. The winery is family run, and when the sons took over operations from their parents, it was completely rebranded. They took a giant leap of faith and moved from higher quantity/lower quality to lower quantity/higher quality, focusing on growing their relationships with their neighbors first, then expanding to foreign markets. I visited with them a couple of summers ago, and they are such genuine people; they adore their family, their community, and the business they’ve built. Coraline (named after one of Francesco’s daughters) is light-plus in body and dry, with notes of underripe raspberry and strawberry alongside white cranberry and white plum. As it opens, softer notes of lychee, flowers, cream, and herbs emerge, with juicy medium-plus acidity that will make you want to eat and drink outside again. Try this with grilled shrimp, citrus-marinated chicken, farro salads with herbs, goat cheese with green olives, or a vegetarian pasta. I drank it at home alongside a tomato and fresh mozzarella salad and it was utter perfection!"
