Founded in 1888 by Torino bartender Pietro Bordiga, this historic Piedmontese distillery is located in Cuneo, at the foot of the Occitan Alps, where the unique combination of mountain altitude and Mediterranean influence produces exceptionally aromatic herbs. Chiot Montamaro is made from a blend of botanicals including mint, thyme, juniper, genepy, caraway, wormwood, and gentian, many of which are wild-foraged in the surrounding mountains. Each botanical is infused individually in organic wheat spirit before being blended with Alpine water and beet sugar, then rested in stainless steel. Light to medium in body, it offers peppermint tea, bitter herbs, gentian, citrus pith, and caraway, with a beautifully balanced, sweet finish. At just 18% ABV, it's lovely enjoyed neat or over ice, and makes a fantastic addition to an espresso martini.
