Unfiltered Wine Club, April 2026, vintage 2023:

"We’ve all been waiting for Spring for what feels like an eternity this season. We’re right on the edge of the cool weather breaking and the warm breezes swooping in to make us want rosé and chillable reds, but there’s still a need to cozy up with textural whites. This month’s wine club  includes all of that! Our first wine of April is imported by Vinotas Selections and is made from 100% Grecanico Dorato, an ancient variety also known in northern Italy as Garganega. Azienda Agricola Pianogrillo is located in southern Sicily and dedicates their vineyards to organic practices, biodiversity, and minimal intervention both in farming and winemaking. They work exclusively with indigenous varieties and aim to produce honest, terroir driven wines. This wine is all about texture; it’s medium plus in body and has notes of baked almond, poached pear, crushed stone, and cream, with medium acidity and lingering hints of Necco wafer on the finish. It’s extremely balanced and food-friendly, and sings with seafood. I recommend pairing it with linguine and white clam sauce, burrata, feta, and other fresh cheeses, hummus platters, sushi, and my personal dream come true: white fish with capers over rice with sautéed leafy greens. I would avoid anything  overtly creamy, although it can certainly stand up to butter-based dishes. Drink cool!"
