Unfiltered Wine Club, August 2024

"We’re kicking things off this month with a delicious crispy white wine from the Piedmont region of Italy. Famous for Barolo (Nebbiolo), Barbaresco (again Nebbiolo), and Gavi (Cortese), to name a few, the Piedmont is one of the more reputable wine producing regions in Italy, and for good reason. The name Piedmont is an English version of a Latin word that loosely translates to “at the foot of the mountain,” referring to the Alps (the highest and largest mountain range in all of Europe). Most wines from this region are worth trying, and many love to be cellared. The white you have here is made from grapes sourced from the organic vineyards of farmer friends of the Faccenda family. The blend is 60% Cortese and 40% Arneis, and it’s extremely lean, salty, and savory, and I tasted notes of flint, herbs, and lime citrus. It’d be delightful nice and cold with a tomato and feta salad, which you all may want to enjoy now before all these incredible tomatoes are gone for the season!
