Chenin Blanc from Swartland, Western Cape, South Africa; medium bodied, bright, and dry with notes of banana pudding, lemonbalm, beeswax, and mint with persistent medium plus acid and lingering pineapple on the finish. Sustainable
From Unfiltered Wine Club September 2023:
Chenin Blanc is one of my favorite varieties; it’s right up there with Chardonnay. I love that it’s weighty but not oaky, and that it endlessly evolves in the glass. It also happens to be delicious with pumpkin! Lubanzi’s Chenin comes from Swartland in the Western Cape of South Africa, and their entire operation is focused on Sustainability and fair pay to their employees. This wine reminds me of pudding with its creamy, vanilla wafer, banana vibes, but it also has some grilled pineapple and beeswax notes in there! There are some hints of lemon balm that lend brightness and sudden bursts of mint that quickly faded away. Let me know if you catch it! This wine can stand up to heavy, spicy, and/or aggressively seasoned dishes, and is perfect with Indian cuisine.
