Wine Club February 2023:

It couldn’t be a José Pastor focused Wine Club without at least one wine from the Canary Islands. Los Loros is made from 100% Listán Negro and is inherently smokey. The islands there are all volcanic with basalt soil composition, which will bring out smokey qualities in grape varieties that are prone to it. This one comes from the island of Tenerife which has a high altitude, and these grapes come from 1300 meters above sea level! After a few minutes open, the smokey quality chills out a little bit, making way for more strawberry, cherry, meat, and salty undertones. I also got rice cracker and black pepper. The wine has a solid medium body and dry, soft, but grippy tannins, making it absolutely stunning with just about any food. I had this with tacos and it was amazing. This is another red wine that should be enjoyed room temp or slightly cooler.
