Forest-floor undertones give the wine a grounding element, while its glossy texture and medium-plus acidity keep everything fluid and precise. Firm, dry tannins add just enough grip and structure without weighing it down or overshadowing the fruity and earthy aromas. The Haden Fig team practices organic farming and takes a sustainable, low-intervention approach, aiming for balance and clarity rather than power (unlike so many tragically over-oaked Willamette and California Pinots). A few summers ago I visited this winery, and the breathtaking views pale in comparison to the amazing, thoughtful people who work there. Their attention to detail and respect for nature are unparalleled. Regarding food-pairing options, I suggest serving this wine alongside roasted chicken, duck, or pork accompanied by hearty herbed-rice, pan-seared salmon with lentils, mushroom pot pie, and quinoa or barley-stuffed squash.
