"Speaking of indigenous grape varieties, Freisa is one that is native to Langhe in the Piedmont region of Italy. It translates to “strawberry” in English and actually has a wild underripe strawberry thing going on. There’s a lot of plum, berries, and cream going on in there as well, with subdued notes of olives and cured beef. It has an inky and powdery-dry tannin structure in the end, so consider drinking it with some food; steak, sure, but also vegetable stews, roasts, and black rice and lentils."
